Medical students’ evaluation of competency-based and traditionaleducational environment using the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure

Background:Competency-based medical education (CBME) was introduced in India 2019 to transform the educational environment. Students’ perspectives are vital incorporate positive changes and ameliorate shortcomings as important stakeholders. The authors have tried capture these perceptions study. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted between August 2020 May 2021 with randomly selected undergraduate student volunteers at a government college Delhi, India. In all, 50 students were included from first year enrolled competencybased curriculum second studying traditional curriculum. Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) used evaluate of environments. Results: Perception learning (PL) showed more response among first-year (using CBME) mean score 32.18±6.32 comparison second-year following 29.04±7.29 (P=0.04). Total score, PL, students’ perception teachers/teaching (PT), academic self-perception (ASP) (P=0.03,<0.01, 0.02, 0.05 respectively), higher day-scholars those who stayed college-based housing (hostellers). Overall, no gender differences seen. Conclusion: Better reduction problem areas, favorable environment day scholars compared hostellers all seen CBME method. Perceptions two groups concerning support systems other aspects such irritating teachers, cheating, perceived boredom different. This analysis can serve helpful feedback designers.
